Dance teacher news: A level Dance results for 2026

Remember when results day meant a brown envelope? This week brought A level Dance results, 38°C heat across much of England and Strictly’s final celebrity. Here’s what matters for your studio.
A level results day
A level results came out on Thursday 13 August. Ofqual’s A level results 2026 at a glance blog gives teachers the national picture.
For dance, AQA’s A level results statistics for June 2026 show 974 students sat A level Dance. Of those, 28.3% achieved A* or A, and 83.2% achieved grade C or above. AQA says the figures are provisional, pending enquiries about results.
What this means for your school: plenty of our senior students take A level Dance alongside their studio training. Send a congratulations message, and celebrate where they’re heading next.
Dancing safely in the heat
The Met Office issued an amber Extreme Heat warning on 11 August. Temperatures were likely to peak around 38°C on Thursday in parts of southern and eastern England and the Midlands. The UK Health Security Agency also issued heat health alerts.
Summer schools and holiday intensives often run in halls with no air conditioning. The Met Office and British Red Cross advice is simple: drink plenty of fluids, take regular breaks and look out for signs of heat exhaustion.
What this means for your school: build in water breaks, shorten the high intensity sections and keep an eye on your youngest dancers. A lighter class on a hot day is still a good class.
Strictly’s line up is complete
Gavin and Stacey actor Melanie Walters is the 15th and final celebrity for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC confirmed it on 12 August in its announcement that Melanie Walters completes the Strictly Come Dancing 2026 line up. The series heads to the ballroom this September.
What this means for your school: Strictly season gets people talking about ballroom and Latin. If you’ve been thinking about an adult beginners’ course or a taster night, now’s the time to plan it.
More routes into dance teaching
bbodance says more than 80 Host Dance Schools worldwide now support students on its Level 3 Certificate Dance Teaching Assistant course. It’s studied online, and UK students gain UCAS Tariff points. bbodance shared the news on 13 August in 80 dance schools inspiring the next generation of dance teachers. You can find out about becoming a bbodance Host Dance School on its website.
The ISTD also highlighted its Level 4 Diploma in Teaching Community Dance on 12 August. It’s aimed at workshop leaders, community arts practitioners and freelance teachers.
What this means for your school: your senior students and assistants have clear, qualification based routes into teaching. Well trained assistants help everyone feel safe and confident in class.
This week’s tip
Results week is a lovely time to celebrate your leavers. Ask them for a short quote about what dance has given them, and get consent before you share any photos. It makes a great welcome back post in September.
