Who can joinHow we treat each otherWhat you can postPrivacy and childrenReportingWhat happens if the rules are brokenAppealsSorting out disagreementsContactOur community is for dance teachers and learners to share ideas, ask questions and cheer each other on. These guidelines are the everyday rules for our forums, groups, comments, profiles and messages, on the website and in the app. Our Community and moderation policy explains how we enforce them. Jackie and Jess
In short
- Members are aged 16 and over. Members aged 16 and 17 have extra protections.
- Be kind, be relevant and protect everyone's privacy.
- Photos of under-18s only in groups (any group), with written consent from a parent or carer and the young person. Under-18s can upload photos in groups only.
- Report anything worrying. Safeguarding worries go to Jess Porter at [email protected].
- Breaking the rules can lead to removal, warnings or a ban. You can appeal.
Who can join
You must be 16 or over. If you're 16 or 17, your account starts with the most private settings, and our moderators know it belongs to someone under 18 (other members can't see this). Adults and under-18s can't send each other private messages. The only exception is your tutor or assessor, who can message you about your course. Those messages are logged, can be seen by our moderators and Designated Safeguarding Lead, and are kept on record.
How we treat each other
- Treat everyone with respect. No hate speech, discrimination, bullying, harassment or threats (see Equality, diversity and inclusion).
- Give feedback that is honest, kind and useful. No personal attacks.
- Welcome new members. Everyone is welcome, whatever their background, style or level.
- Use clear, appropriate language. Remember members may be as young as 16.
What you can post
- Posts relevant to dance and to the group. Off-topic posts may be moved or removed.
- No spam, and no advertising or promotion without our approval.
- Only content you have the right to share. Credit choreographers, teachers and creators.
- Events must be relevant to dance and give the date, time, place and purpose.
- New groups need our approval.
- Never post anything illegal, sexual, violent, extremist or hateful, or anything that encourages self-harm, eating disorders or dangerous stunts.
Privacy and children
- Don't share personal information, your own or anyone else's, such as addresses, phone numbers or which school a child attends.
- No doxxing: never post private information about someone without their consent.
- Images of under-18s: Photos or videos of anyone under 18 can be posted only inside groups (any of our groups), and only with written consent from a parent or carer and from the young person. Members aged 16 and 17 can upload photos in groups, but not on profiles, in messages, in the main feed or in forums outside groups. Adults can upload photos anywhere, but photos showing an under-18 still belong in groups only. Our moderators check consent. Never add a child's full name, school or location. We may ask to see the consent and remove anything posted without it. Assessment films go through your course, never the community (see Filming safely).
- Profile pictures and usernames must be appropriate, and must not show a child.
- Don't ask any member to move to private contact off the platform, and adults must never ask an under-18 for contact details, images or a meeting.
Reporting
- Use the Report button on any profile, post, comment, group, forum post or photo or video. Private messages can't be reported one by one: instead, report the sender's profile or block them, or email [email protected] with a screenshot. For anything else, email [email protected].
- Safeguarding worry about a child or adult at risk: contact Jess Porter, Designated Safeguarding Lead, at [email protected] the same day. Deputy: Jackie Sanderson, via [email protected]. In an emergency, call 999.
- We review reports within 1 working day, and safeguarding reports the same day.
What happens if the rules are broken
Depending on how serious it is, we may remove content, give a warning, restrict features such as posting or messaging, or suspend or end an account. Anyone who puts a child at risk is removed straight away and reported to our Designated Safeguarding Lead, and we may tell the police. We tell you what we did and why, unless that would put someone at risk.
Appeals
If you think a decision was wrong, email [email protected] within 14 days. Someone who wasn't involved reviews it and replies within 10 working days. If you're still unhappy, use our Complaints policy.
Sorting out disagreements
Keep disagreements calm and respectful. If you can't resolve something, ask a moderator to help.
