Your accountHow to report a post or a personHow to block someoneTalking to someoneSome simple habitsContactWe're really glad you're here. This page is for members aged 16 and 17, and it's about one thing: feeling safe while you learn and chat with us. If anything ever feels wrong, you won't be in trouble for telling us, and you won't be wasting our time. Jackie and Jess
In short
- If something worries you, report it or tell us. You're never in trouble for asking.
- You can block anyone, at any time, without explaining why.
- Jess Porter looks after safeguarding at [email protected]. Jackie Sanderson is her deputy.
- In an emergency, call 999.
Your account
Because you're under 18, your account starts with the most private settings. Adults in our community can't send you private messages, and you can't send them to adults. The only exception is your tutor or assessor, who can message you about your course, and those messages are logged so our safeguarding team can see them. Our moderators know your account belongs to someone under 18, but other members can't see this.
How to report a post or a person
If you see something that upsets you or doesn't feel right, please report it. You can report:
- a member's profile
- a post in the activity feed, or a comment on it
- a group
- a forum discussion or reply
- a photo, video or document
- a comment on a blog post
Look for the Report option in the menu on the item (usually the three dots). Choose the reason that fits best, add a short note if you like, and send it. You can do this on the website and in the app. Your report goes to our team, and the person you reported isn't told who sent it.
If a private message worries you, report the person who sent it from their profile, and email us at [email protected] so we know which message you mean.
How to block someone
You can block any member, for any reason, and you don't need to tell them. Go to their profile, open the menu (the three dots) and choose Block. Once you've blocked someone:
- you won't see their posts
- they can't mention you in posts
- they can't invite you to groups
- they can't message you
- they can't add you as a connection
Blocking also removes them from your connections and sends a report to our team, so we can take a look.
Talking to someone
- Jess Porter, our Designated Safeguarding Lead: [email protected]
- Jackie Sanderson, our deputy, via [email protected]
- Childline: call 0800 1111, free and confidential, or visit childline.org.uk
- NSPCC helpline: 0808 800 5000
- In an emergency, if you or someone else is in danger right now, call 999.
Some simple habits
- Keep your address, phone number, school and passwords to yourself.
- Never move a chat to another app or meet someone because they asked you to. If an adult asks you for private contact, photos or a meeting, tell Jess straight away.
- If something you've seen stays on your mind, talk to someone you trust, or to us.
