Equality, diversity and inclusion
Dance belongs to everyone, and so do our courses. This policy sets out how we make sure everyone is welcomed, treated fairly and assessed to the same standard, and what to do if that hasn't happened for you. Jackie and Jess
In short
- We welcome learners of every background.
- We don't discriminate because of any protected characteristic.
- Everyone gets the same marking tables, with adjustments where needed.
- Tell us about any bullying, harassment or discrimination at [email protected].
Our commitment
We don't discriminate because of any protected characteristic in the Equality Act 2010: age (our courses and community are open to learners aged 16 and over, with extra protections for 16 and 17 year olds), disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. In Northern Ireland, equivalent protections come from Northern Ireland equality law. We also welcome and respect every gender identity.
What this means in practice
- Course materials credit the people and cultures dances come from, and avoid stereotypes.
- Assessment is fair: the same marking tables for everyone, reasonable adjustments where needed (see Reasonable adjustments) and quality assurance of every assessor.
- We invite you to fill in an optional, separate equality form. Every question, including an optional question on gender identity, has "prefer not to say". We report it only in anonymised totals, to spot unfairness.
- We act on bullying, harassment or discrimination by anyone in our courses or community.
