Everyone deserves a fair chance to show what they can do. If something about the way a task is set makes it harder for you, we'll work with you to change how you show your learning, without lowering the standard. Just tell us early, and we'll sort it out together. Jackie and Jess

In short

  • For disability, long-term health conditions, learning differences, injury or pregnancy.
  • We change how you show your learning, not the standard.
  • Email [email protected], ideally before you start the task.
  • We agree it in writing within 10 working days. It's always free.

Who it's for

If you're disabled, have a long-term health condition or a learning difference, or are injured or pregnant, we'll make reasonable changes so you can show what you know and can do. This is in line with the Equality Act 2010 (England, Wales and Scotland) and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Northern Ireland). You'll never be charged for an adjustment.

What we can change

How you show your learning, for example:

  • extra time to submit
  • recording a spoken answer instead of writing, or writing instead of speaking
  • captions or a transcript for a video that doesn't have them, large print or screen-reader friendly templates
  • breaks in the professional discussion, or splitting it into two shorter calls
  • demonstrating with a partner, or describing a figure in words where a physical demonstration isn't possible, while still showing you can teach it
  • other ways of setting up your filmed teaching if finding a group is a barrier, which we'll talk through with you

What we can't change

The marking criteria. Your work still has to meet every row in the marking table.

How to ask

Email [email protected] as early as you can, ideally before you start the task. Tell us what makes the task harder and what usually helps, for example "I normally use speech-to-text". We agree the adjustment with you in writing, usually within 10 working days, and record it so your assessor and quality assurer know. You don't have to share medical details unless you want to. If you do share health information, we use it only to arrange your adjustment, with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time (see Privacy notice).

If an illness or a difficult event affects you during the course, see Special consideration. If you disagree with our decision, you can appeal (see Appeals).
