Life happens, and sometimes it happens right when a deadline is due. If illness, injury, bereavement or a sudden crisis affects you, this policy explains how we can help and how to ask. Please don't struggle on in silence. Jackie and Jess

In short

  • For things that happen at or near the time of an assessment.
  • We can extend deadlines, move a discussion, pause your course or reset a knowledge check attempt.
  • Email [email protected], ideally within 7 days. We reply within 5 working days.

What we can do

  • Extend a deadline.
  • Move a professional discussion.
  • Pause your course.
  • Reset a final knowledge check attempt if something outside your control (for example a power cut or a medical emergency) stopped you finishing.

We can't change the marking table or pass work that doesn't meet it. Special consideration is different from a reasonable adjustment, which is planned in advance (see Reasonable adjustments).

How to ask

Email [email protected] as soon as you can, ideally within 7 days of the event. Tell us what happened and how it affected you. We may ask for simple evidence, but never more than we need. We reply within 5 working days and record the decision. You can appeal it (see Appeals).
