Conflicts of interest
Last updated 15 October 2026 · Version 1.0 · Reading time about 1 minute
Fair marking means nobody judges work where they have a personal stake. This policy explains what a conflict of interest is, how we spot and manage them, and what to do if you know your assessor. Telling us is easy and never a problem. Jackie and Jess
In short
- A conflict is anything that could make a decision unfair, or look unfair.
- Assessors and quality assurers declare conflicts when they join and whenever things change.
- If you know your assessor personally, tell us and we'll move you.
What counts
For example, an assessor marking a friend, relative, employee, business partner or their own student, or a team member taking a course they help deliver.
Our rules
- Every assessor and quality assurer declares conflicts when they join and whenever something changes.
- A learner with a conflict is moved to another assessor, and a different quality assurer checks their work.
- Team members who take one of our courses are assessed and quality assured only by people they don't manage or work closely with.
- We keep a conflicts register, with what we did about each conflict, until any appeal or quality check is finished.
